I had an F100, back when I cared about making art. I’m pleased to see that someone still loads film in a camera and waits for the results.

Great shots. These are from film? Not digital?

That rat rod just looks so right on black and white film.

I shot on film and scanned the negatives. It is slow, but I am consistently impressed with the results.

That first image is great. It for some reason reminds me of the old joke that there are probably more ‘32 Fords today than there were in ‘32

Nailed this in 2003 walking up 6th Avenue. VR200-800 Nikon lens, and I think the F100.

What do you use to scan?

There were a lot of little things about the car that were neat. The best thing about it though, was that while the Ferrari and McLaren drivers were polishing their cars with microfiber rags, the owner of the rat rod just walked out and left the car unlocked.

I have the negatives scanned at the local photo shop... I think they use a Noritsu scanner, but I could be mistaken. They get much higher quality scans than I could at home, and it is nice to have a relationship with a local business.

I do the same thing with my local photo shop. It's nice to talk cameras and film with people who are actually interested in it.

Very cool! I love the reflection of the headlights on the bumper in this one.

I picked up some Ilford Delta 100, these pics make me excited to use it!

I can’t pick between the Chevelle and the Simo (Of which I can’t find anything about, Ginetta Simo GT or something?)

I have been experimenting with different B&W films recently... my favorite so far has been Ilford HP5. Look out for some other types of film (including medium format!) probably next week.

I am a big fan of Ilford films... I have been experimenting with different black and whites recently (Pan F, FP4 and my favorite HP5) so stay tuned.
The last image is a Dino - not technically a Ferrari, since in that era only the V12 cars were branded in the Ferrari name.

Oh it’s a Dino, the badge kind of looks like it says “Simo”

Kinja'd!!!

But looking at it as Dino now I can’t see the S anymore.

I had a roll of FP4 but unfortunately blew it on a camera which is expensive to develop for, I won’t be getting that roll developed for a while. I’ll have to get some more another day.

What about XP2? I just put that into one of my cameras, looking forward to seeing how it comes out. It uses the C-41 colour process so it’s cheaper to process at most places but then you’ve got the same grain that a colour film has.

From what I can tell, the differences between HP5, Delta 400 and XP2 have to do with the type of grain that the film has. HP5, as well as FP4 and Pan F have a more traditional grain structure and in my experience provide more contrast between highlights and shadows. The Delta films are a modern film with a finer grain and a greater tonal range (look at the grays in this roll of film vs the previous one I posted). Finally XP2 is the C-41 process so properly speaking it has no grain (it has no silver) but develops similarly to color film.
I develop B&W myself so I have never tried XP2, but from talking to people that have, it all comes down to taste and what you feel is best for the subject you are shooting.

Delta is supposed to be their “pro” line of films so it’s going to have the finest grain.

I had a look at your HP5 post, those came out much better than mine! I was shooting nature type stuff so perhaps the scanner just wasn’t doing a good job capturing all the details and compressing them badly. But I could have done a better job exposing them too.
